Module 1 – From Lilongwe to Matunka

Description:

When arriving at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe, you still need to travel another 420 kilometers to reach Matunkha.

 

There are two options you can choose from:

1. You can take public transport. This means you go by bus to Rumphi, from where you have to get a taxi or walk the 2 kms to the Matunkha Centre.

This is a cheap way, but time consuming, as bus schedules are very flexible.

You have to spend a night in Lilongwe and another night in Mzuzu if you want to avoid traveling in darkness.

2. Matunkha collects you by car. If you are arriving later than around 13:30 hrs local time, you first have to spend a night in Lilongwe as the total duration of the trip to Matunkha is about 6 hours and our drivers are not allowed to drive at night.

This trip includes the transport to or from Matunkha, drinking water and a stop-over with some snacks and drinks in the Vipya Mountains.

 

This last option is of course more expensive, but it is less time consuming and certainly less stressful.

 

 

Costs:

The cost for collecting or bringing you to the airport (excluding one night accommodation):

For 2 persons € 260 per person

For 3 persons € 180 per person

For 4 persons € 140 per person

For 5 persons € 120 per person.

 

If the trip is a combination of two different groups in bringing to and collecting from the airport, there will be a 40% discount

To spend a night in Lilongwe is around € 40 per person.
