Module 2 – CULTURAL TOUR Description: This is nice walk through the village, where you can see crafts that are still being made as they were a long time ago.
After breakfast at Matunkha, you will be brought to a nearby village by car. There the Chief of the village will welcome you and a local guide will tour you around and introduces to you different craft activities. You are free to ask questions and talk with the villagers you meet on the way You will see activities such as making fish traps, baskets, axes, and visit a herbalist who can explain to you which trees are used for medical use. This tour will give you more insight in how the Tumbuka people live, and make a living. The tour ends at the house of the Chief with a typical Malawian lunch.
This village, Vyalema village, was the first community to start a tourism activity. The village has formed a committee for the preservation of their cultural heritage and all income is used for that purpose. The whole village is involved in this tour, as they show you their home-made crafts and their village.
Please note: There is no possibility to buy crafts from the villagers during the tour or to make orders. If you would like to buy crafts, this can be arranged through the reception desk. In this way we try not to spoil this village and make the people and especially the children not to beg from tourists, as this can be very annoying in other tourist destinations in
Timeframe: At 08.00 hrs you will be collected from the restaurant and brought by car to the village. The tour itself is done on foot. Appr. 13.00 hrs the tour has ended with the lunch and we will collect you. Costs: The cost for this module is € 15.00 per person. There is a discount of € 3.00 on the accommodation price for that day, as explained on the first page. Maximum of 6 persons per tour / morning.
